Play at forefront of Perton Primary Academy
Here's one way to brush up on your maths and have fun at the same time.
Perton Primary Academy, part of the Staffordshire University Academies Trust has invested £100,000 to improve its playground.
It has been transformed with bright pictures and games, all designed to stimulate the children and help them play together.
With the support of the trust, the school was able to turn plans around in six weeks.
Lynn Small, executive headteacher, said: “This was one of the first jobs I wanted to do when I was appointed headteacher at Perton Primary Academy.
"The playground wasn’t Disability Discrimination Act compliant and was difficult for wheelchair users or children with disabilities to enjoy.
“The whole playground has been dug out as it was uneven before and we’ve removed old, unused flowerbeds so the space is much bigger now.”
The school’s new outdoor playing area is complete with football and netball pitches, a world map, compass, lily pads, hopscotch, noughts and crosses and much more.
The academy on Sandown Drive unveiled the brand new, state-of-the-art playground by hosting a full school aerobics class.
Ms Small added: “It’s wonderful seeing all of our pupils enjoy the new playground, just in time for summer too.
“We had saved up the money for this renovation and the trust helped to top up the pot so we could make it happen sooner. The trust helped us with all of the admin and paperwork from the tenders, to health and safety. Without them taking care of that, I wouldn’t have been able to find the time to do it so quickly.”
CEO at SUA Trust, Keith Hollins, said: “The playground is amazing now it’s finished.
"We want to make sure all the staff and pupils in our trust have the best possible facilities and we support them wherever we possibly can.
"We’re really looking forward to seeing the pupils enjoy the new playground.”
