Winnie the Pooh and Alice star as school transforms library into magical wonderland
A Staffordshire school has transformed its library into a magical wonderland to encourage pupils to get stuck into books.
Rocklands School, in Lichfield have worked alongside its Association of Staff, Parents and Friends (ASPF) for the project.
The group raised £4,000 for the work on the library to go ahead.
Funds were spent on creating a stunning woodland mural, ambient lighting, furnishing, laptops, tablets, audiobooks and tonie audio boxes.
The refurbishment is part of a plan to encourage young people to get into reading.
Mrs Jane Elliker, deputy head teacher at Rocklands School, said: "Funding from our ASPF has allowed us to create the magical wonderland for our pupils.
"Councillor Dave Robertson attended the opening event, as his work with the charity has given us funding for new laptops and tablets which will both be used in the library.
"The idea was for our pupils to be able to walk into a magical wonderland and be completely transported into a new world.
"We have little mushroom lights, spotlights and the large mural. We hope that this will inspire our children to learn and read.
"Developing and promoting children's love of reading is truly paramount to us."
Each class has a timetabled session in the library at least once or twice per week, where they get the chance to use all of the facilities on offer.
Mrs Elliker added: "As well as promoting reading and a love of books we are trying to develop children's skills, and teach them new skills.
"We also have job roles which the children can take on, such as library monitors and checking the books in and out, there is a lot they can learn."
Rocklands School is part of the Manor Hall Academy Trust.
