Pupils put art into lockdown wall
A colourful ‘feel-good’ wall to remember those lost in the pandemic and to pay tribute to lockdown heroes is being built at a school.
Chase Terrace Academy has joined forces with builder Taylor Wimpey West Midlands to launch the legacy art project.
The school in Burntwood is asking people to paint a brick with designs to mark the time families have spent in lockdown.
They will be used to create the wall in the school’s memorial garden.
Nicola Mason, head of school, said: “We are thrilled to be working in partnership with Taylor Wimpey and excited to launch this project during what I hope will be our final lockdown.
“We hope that our amazing community will get behind us.
“We want them to help us record this extraordinary event and help us to create a meaningful legacy for Covid-19.
“This is a feel-good project which I hope will inspire people to get creative and get painting.
“Some may wish to pay tribute to the NHS and key workers, remember a loved one or simply reflect how they have spent their time during the pandemic.”
The bricks have been donated by house builder Taylor Wimpey West Midlands.
Angie Prince, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey West Midlands, added: “Supporting the local communities around our developments is extremely important to us and we are so excited to be a part of this project.
“It has been a difficult time for the local families and schools so this is a great way to bring everyone together and get creative.
"We look forward to seeing the finished wall in the school’s memorial garden.”
Anyone wishing to take part in the art lockdown project can collect a brick from the school office Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 3.30pm.
Painted bricks should be returned back to the school.
