Wolverhampton University wins 12-year deal to support athletes

The University of Wolverhampton has been given the go-ahead to extend its specialist sports facilities.

The project is part of a new 12-year partnership between the university and the British Judo Association.

It will see the the university support budding athletes in the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the next three cycles of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Centre of Excellence is located at the Walsall Campus, on Gorway Road and will prepare athletes for Paris 2024, Los Angeles 2028 and beyond.

Andrew Scoular, CEO of British Judo and board member of the British Olympic Association (BOA), added: “We are delighted to have agreed a lease with the university to ensure it will remain the home to our Judo programme for the next three Olympic and Paralympic Cycles.”
