Glowing reports for schools in the region
More than half of the schools in the Black Country and Staffordshire inspected recently by Ofsted have been rated as good or outstanding, figures reveal today.
A total of 847 schools in Dudley, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Sandwell and Staffordshire were inspected from April to June this year. Of those, 532 were seen as outstanding or good compared with 315 rated satisfactory or inadequate. Among those considered outstanding by Ofsted is Wood
Green Academy in Wednesbury that teaches around 1,460 pupils.
Headteacher Pankaj Patel, said: "The quality of what goes on and the commitment from everyone at the school is second to none.
"It is a fantastic recognition of we do and is a just reward for the high level of work carried out at the school."
In Wolverhampton, 17 schools were rated outstanding, 47 good, 39 satisfactory and four inadequate.
Councillor Phil Page, cabinet member for schools in Wolverhampton, said: "We have been saying for a long time that the schools in Wolverhampton are improving.
"If you want your children to succeed, bring them here. We have some bright children learning here and some fantastic teachers."
Meanwhile in Dudley, 17 schools got the highest rating, 49 were seen as good, 37 satisfactory and six were rated inadequate.
The Brier School in Bromely lane, Kingswinford, is one of Dudley's outstanding schools, providing specialist teaching to children with learning difficulties.
In the report from Ofsted the school was praised for its "inspiring" staff.
Over the border in Walsall, 24 schools were rated outstanding, 48 good, 44 satisfactory and only two inadequate. A total of 392 schools were inspected in Staffordshire. Fifty-seven were given the top rating, 199 were seen as good, 119 satisfactory and 17 inadequate.
And in Sandwell, 22 were rated outstanding, 52 good, 40 satisfactory and seven inadequate. The figures relate to inspections carried out between April 1 and June 30.
