James Hollingsworth, from Pinkney Place, Oldbury, was arrested shortly after the woman came forward.
The 29-year-old was subsequently charged with two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and controlling and coercive behaviour.

Despite denying the offences, Hollingsworth was convicted following a trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court, and sentenced to 16 years in prison on Friday (May 23).
He has also been put on the sex offenders register for life and was given a restraining order.
Investigating officer, PC Nathan Lawrence from our Public Protection Unit, said: “The woman who came forward to tell us about Hollingsworth has shown immense courage after suffering a truly horrific ordeal.
“From her initial report, through to the trial, our expert officers have tried their best to support her, and we commend her bravery.
“We encourage anyone who has suffered abuse to speak to us – you will be supported and believed, and I hope this case shows how seriously it will be taken.”
