Silent Crime: 93 per cent of respondents to Express & Star survey feel crime is worse in their area

More than 90 per cent of those who took an Express & Star survey on their experiences of crime reported an increase in the crime they perceive.

More than 40 people responded to the Silent Crime survey that looked to give readers a chance to share their experiences of crimes that went either unreported or unresolved, and talk about the issues that affect them the most. 

In the survey, 93.5 percent of readers admitted that they feel the level of crime has increased in their areas over the last few years, with many saying anti-social behaviour and petty crime are the root causes of their worry.

In the survey, anti-social behaviour, theft, drug dealing and shoplifting were detailed as the most prevalent crimes, with 32.6 percent of people saying they no longer feel safe in their area.

One reader talked about their issues with car crime and verbal abuse in their area, saying that the reason they didn't report the crime is 'because there is no point'.
