Violent thug jailed after repeatedly punching girlfriend in the face
A violent boyfriend who repeatedly punched his partner in the face whilst the police tried to gain entry to his Black Country home has been jailed.
Andre Davies, of Ridgeway, Tipton, was jailed for 25 months for his brutal attack on the woman during which he smashed her mobile phone so she could not phone for help.
The 31-year-old invited his victim back to his flat after a night out in Wolverhampton on Saturday, July 14, and subjected her to a sustained beating. Davies pleaded guilty to assault by beating and criminal damage and was sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
Prosecuting, Charles Crinion said: "The defendant punched his victim in the face and then punched her several times more. She asked what he was doing, he then grabbed her by the head. She managed to phone the police. She suffered bruising to her face.
"He then dragged her over the floor by her feet, and then punched her again.
"When the police were trying to gain entry he punched her for a sixth time in the head. He also smashed her mobile phone on the floor breaking it."
In a victim impact statement, Davies' victim claimed: "I now suffer from anxiety. He is controlling and manipulative and I have become less close to my family because of him.
"My children are glad I do not see him anymore. He has previously smashed up my car."
Davies has previous convictions for shoplifting, drugs, possession of a weapon and driving offences. He has been on remand since being arrested in July after the assault.
In mitigation, the court heard Davies had pleaded guilty and was remorseful for his actions after reflecting on his behaviour during his first spell behind bars. Recorder Simon Hughes sentenced Davies to 25 months imprisonment.
He said: "This offence surpasses the custody threshold and only an immediate custodial sentence can suffice in this matter."
