Zabid Hussain, 39, was due to stand trial this week at Wolverhampton Crown Court. However, due to a legal timetabling problem the trial has now been postponed for nine months.

Hussain, of Pershore Road, Birmingham, is charged with the kidnap of a woman in Walsall on Friday, April 26, this year and is also accused of rape.

Hussain pleaded not guilty to both charges at Wolverhampton Crown Court. After proceedings were unable to start on Monday, a pre-trial review was held yesterday (Wednesday) in front of Recorder Sunil Khanna.

The defendant appeared by video link from HMP Birmingham where he is currently on remand. He will remain behind bars until his trial is complete.

Recorder Khanna told Hussain: "Unfortunately you trial could not commence this week. The next earliest date is July 28 next year. You will have to remain in custody until your trial.

"However, your custody time limit expires on November 11. The prosecution has submitted an application for them to be extended, a hearing will take place in this court on November 6 concerning that application."
