Moathouse Lane was cordoned off from around 2pm, with residents speaking of their alarm at the situation.

One person, who did not wish to be named, said the incident had been unfolding since early in the afternoon and was nervous seeing armed police so close to home.

The resident told the Express & Star: "I was taking my dog on a walk when I saw a crowd of people and armed police, as well as a convoy of police vans.

"It's frightening seeing armed police and police dogs about and it's alarming that this is happening so close to home.

"The police aren't saying what's going on but it must be serious to warrant armed police."

Another resident was unable to return to their home and expressed frustration at the lack of information they have received from police.

They said: "The police officer we spoke to at about 4.15 pm told us we couldn't return to our address.

"We was asked to go away for a hour which we did, upon returning two hours later the police had extended the cordon and said we cannot return to our property."
