More than 150 friends and family of the boy marched to the gates of Khalsa Academy, Lanesfield, on Wednesday, where his heartbroken parents complained about how they had been treated in the aftermath of the death.

Ronan's parents Chander and Pooja spoke of the hurt they felt when a trip to Alton Towers went ahead the day after the fatal stabbing, their shock at the school providing a reference for his killers, fellow pupils Prabjeet Veadhesa and Sukhman Shergill, and not seeing a representative of the academy at his funeral..

However, the school's leadership team finally broke their silence, enforced by legal proceedings, which ended last week with the sentencing of the killers.

The letter stated the school was pleased those responsible for the 'heinous crime' had been successfully prosecuted, adding: "We have been prevented from addressing the family's concerns publicly due to legal proceedings."

In a letter to parents, sent on Monday, which also instructed pupils to work from home on the day of the march, the academy explained at length about its actions since the tragic murder in June last year.
