Joanne Roberts brought a seven-bedroom property in Redlake Road in January 2020 for £900,000 after the price had been knocked down from the original one of £1.2m.

Dudley Council's Trading Standards team is prosecuting Neil Law and Peter Mitchell, trading as Olympus Gas of Stourbridge, over four allegations of fraudulent trading between them and six of fraudulent misrepresentation for the firm, all relating to work at the house.

The businessmen are accused of inflating the cost of building work at the property in order to take some of the money themselves. The case is being heard at Wolverhampton Crown Court, sitting at Park Hall Hotel.

Under cross examination, Mrs Roberts denied ever receiving a written estimate or contract from Mr Law or Mr Mitchell, both of who she enlisted to 'project manage' the work

She said she was verbally quoted £254,000 including VAT for work on building new bathrooms, plastering, roofing, plumbing, electricity and renovation.
