Fly-tipper fined after dumping waste from 'cannabis farm'
A fly-tipper who dumped bags full of waste from a suspected cannabis farm has been fined £1,100.
man has been found guilty of fly tipping waste relating to cultivating cannabis in Little Wryley.
Shaun Lee, of Oak Tree Caravan Park in Featherstone, near Wolverhampton, was found guilty of fly-tipping at Cannock Magistrates Court on May 18.
Lee had dumped bin bags full of waste in Wryley Lane, Little Wryley, on January 23, the court were told.
The waste had allegedly come from a cannabis farm.
Lee pleaded not guilty but was convicted of an offence under Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
He was fined £1,100, ordered to pay costs £660 and a victim surcharge of £110.
Councillor Justin Johnson, environment and climate change portfolio leader at Cannock Chase Council, said: “The council takes fly-tipping very seriously.
"Quick-thinking witnesses came forward in this case, which allowed our environmental health officers to trace the vehicle and take action against Mr Lee.
"Anyone thinking of fly-tipping should consider that they could have their vehicle seized, be banned from driving, and in the most serious cases, go to prison.”
To encourage witnesses to come forward the council is offering a £250 reward to anyone who provides evidence that leads to the successful conviction of any person, business or other organisation involved in fly tipping waste in the District.
