The 27-year-old was detained after officers stopped a car in Erdington on Monday night as part of investigations into the disorder in Dunlin Close at 11.30pm on May 7 that left two men seriously hurt.

A man aged 27 suffered a serious slash wound to his arm while another man, aged 33, needed surgery to remove pellets from his face and leg having been fired at with a shotgun.

The older man has since been released from hospital.

Detective Inspector Gemma Currie, from force CID, said: “We believe the incident is gang related and we’ve launched an investigation to find the people responsible.

"It’s totally unacceptable for a firearm to be discharged in a residential street and we could easily have been looking at a murder in this case.

“Our enquiries led to a man being stopped in a car and arrested last night; that man remains in police custody for questioning and our investigation continues.

“If anyone has any information about the incident then please get in touch.

"They can call us in confidence on 101, or message us on Live Chat through our website, or speak to the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.Please quote log number 5052 of May 7."
