Armed police called to aggressive dog loose in Walsall
Armed police were put on standby when officers were called to catch an aggressive dog on a Black Country street.
West Midlands Police was called by a concerned member of the public reporting that a dog was roaming Upper Rushall Street in Walsall just after 7.30pm on Tuesday.
The force deployed a dog unit but was unable to contain the animal as it became aggressive near Asda.
The dog, whose breed is unknown, was eventually cornered in grassland nearby and a police drone was called in to help ensure the animal would not escape.
A spokesman for the force said the dog was safely captured and the armed units were not needed.
Officers are now trying to track the dog's owner down.
A spokesman from West Midlands Police, said: "We were called at 7.35pm last night by a member of the public concerned by the behaviour of a stray dog in Upper Rushall Street.
"One of our dog handlers attended but was unable to contain the dog which was aggressive when approached.
"The dog was cornered in a grassland area and a police drone called in to help monitor the dog in the event it moved away.
"It was later safely recovered and enquiries are on-going to establish the owner. No-one was hurt. Armed police were on standby as a precaution but not needed."
