Wolverhampton woman arrested in connection with £1.6m drugs bust abroad
A woman has been arrested in Wolverhampton following the seizure of cocaine worth around £1.6 million.
National Crime Agency officers detained the 46-year-old today in the city on suspicion of involvement in the conspiracy to supply the drugs.
The stash of the Class A drug was recovered in an empty fuel tank being transported in a van at Belfast port in Northern Ireland on February 22.
Two men, aged 60 and 31, were also detained in Wolverhampton today on suspicion of conspiring to supply class A drugs, offences not connected to the Belfast seizure.
The 60-year-old was additionally arrested on suspicion of firearms offences.
All three are now being questioned by National Crime Agency investigators.
Two men, including the driver of the van intercepted as it came off a ferry from Birkenhead into Belfast, have already been charged in connection with the haul.
A third man was arrested and bailed.
Adam Warnock, NCA branch commander, said: “Our investigation has now broadened to take in alleged offences above and beyond the Belfast seizure.
"Today’s arrests reflect that, and our enquiries continue.”
