A 20-year-old man died in the crash which happened on Lichfield Road in Nechells, Birmingham, at around 8.55pm on Thursday.

The collision involved a BMW and a Toyota Aygo.

The BMW had been chased by police shortly before the crash after it failed to stop, however West Midlands Police said the pursuit had been abandoned prior to the crash.

Two men, both from the Toyota, were taken to hospital with serious injuries. One remained in a critical condition on Saturday morning and the other was described stable.

Florin Marin, aged 32 from Birchfield Road, Aston, was arrested at the scene and has now been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop after a collision and causing death by driving whilst driving uninsured.

He is alleged to have been behind the wheel of the BMW.

A 27-year-old woman thought to have been a passenger in the car has been released under investigation.

Marin was due to appear before Birmingham magistrates on Saturday.
