WATCH: Man jailed for 10 years after frenzied knife attack on Wolverhampton street

Fabian Nelson-Brown pounced on his victim who was in a car as it pulled up at the junction of Nordley Road and West Avenue in Wednesfield on March 23 this year.

He stabbed the 38-year-old passenger in the chest through the car window and, as his victim jumped through the car and out of the back door to escape, chased after him and stabbed him again in the back as he stumbled.

The man was able to make it back to the car and was taken straight to hospital, where he was treated for three knife wounds, one of which had punctured his lung. He has since made a full recovery.

Nelson-Brown, from Thetford Gardens, Wednesfield, escaped in a waiting car but was arrested just over a week later, after CCTV and an ID parade identified him.

And after a week-long trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court last week where 21-year-old Nelson-Brown denied any involvement, he was found guilty of wounding.

Another man, who was driving the car Nelson-Brown escaped in, stood trial alongside him, but was found not guilty by the jury.

Detective Sergeant Darren Brown, from force CID at West Midlands Police, said: "This was a totally unprovoked and unexpected attack on the victim.

"He was lucky to escape with his life or at the very least more serious injury.

"We continue our fight against knife crime across our regions, but convictions like this are only part of the story. We’re working with schools, parents and others to get the message out about the devastating impact violence has on lives."
