'Despicable': Elderly Wolverhampton woman attacked and robbed at her home
An elderly woman was attacked in her own home by a man who ripped a gold ring from her finger before fleeing with cash and bank cards.
West Midlands Police is appealing for witnesses after the home invasion, which happened at a home on Tettenhall Road, Wolverhampton, on Tuesday evening.
Police have said the crook – described as a white man aged in his 20s − knocked on the woman’s door between 5.30 to 6pm before barging his way inside, knocking her to the floor.
She tried fending him off with her walking stick but he manhandled her into a chair and pulled off the gold ring.
He demanded cash and ransacked the woman’s living room before running off with her purse.
Detective Sergeant Lynsey Damms described the attack as “despicable".
She said: “We suspect the offender knew a vulnerable woman lived at the address and deliberately went for her as an easy target.
“She answered the door as she was expecting a delivery − but the moment she opened the door she was shoved to the floor by a man who ran inside.
“Tettenhall Road would have been quite busy at the time and I’m sure someone will have seen this man running away from the address.
“And I would urge any motorists or cyclists who were driving through at around the time to check camera footage as they may have recorded something important.
“This is a truly despicable offence on a vulnerable resident and we need to catch the person responsible quickly."
