Man charged and three arrested over murder of Naasir Francis

A man has been charged and three more people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Naasir Francis in Birmingham earlier this week.

Lawrence Morgan, aged 24, of Crompton Close, Nechells has been charged with murder, three counts of attempted murder and possession of a banned weapon.

He appeared before Birmingham Magistrates court this morning and has been remanded to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday, .

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder, while a 48-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

All three were arrested in Surrey and will be transported to the West Midlands for questioning.

A 22-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder continues to be questioned by detectives.

Devastated

A 39-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman who were arrested yesterday on suspicion of assisting an offender have been released pending further investigation.

Naasir Francis, aged, 22, was shot and killed in Lozells at around 12.30pm on Wednesday.

Detective Chief Inspector Jim Munro, from the West Midlands Police homicide unit, said: “I would continue to urge anyone who has any information who has not yet spoken to us to get in touch.

“Naasir’s family and friends are devastated by his death which has also left the community sad and shocked.

“Local neighbourhood police teams will continue their increased presence in the area over the weekend."
