West Midlands Police takes over body in suitcase murder investigation
West Midlands Police has taken over the investigation into the murder of a woman whose remains were found in two suitcases.
Gareeca Conita Gordon, aged 27, is accused of killing the unknown woman on a date between April 14 and May 12 at her home address in Birmingham and has been charged with murder.
Meanwhile 38-year-old Wolverhampton man, Mahesh Sorathiya, of Denmore Gardens, has been charged with assisting an offender in connection with the case.
Police were seen at a home in the city amid the investigation.
Deputy Chief Constable Louisa Rolfe said the investigation was now being headed by the West Midlands force as, although the remains were discovered close to a quarry in the Forest of Dean, the murder is alleged to have happened in Birmingham,
DCC Rolfe said: "On May 12 the body of a woman was found in a car.
"The case is now being managed by West Midlands Police.
"It's believed to be Birmingham-related so it is us who will be taking on that."
Gordon and Sorathiya appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on Saturday.
No pleas have yet been entered.
