Gurpreet Singh: Wolverhampton wife murder retrial set for next month
The retrial of a businessman accused of murdering his wife at their Wolverhampton home is set to start next month.
A jury failed to reach a verdict in the original trial of Gurpreet Singh, aged 44, who is alleged to have killed wife Sarbjit Kaur in Rookery Lane, Penn, in February 2018.
He was, however, acquitted of offering to pay a would-be hit-man £20,000 to kill his previous wife Amandeep Kaur in 2013.
The jury at Birmingham Crown Court was dismissed after members were unable to come to a verdict on the murder charge following days of deliberations.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced straight away it would seek a retrial and has now confirmed it is scheduled to begin on November 4.
Singh was denied bail following the original trial and has remained in custody since.
A CPS spokesman said: "We are working towards a re-trial of Gurpreet Singh for the murder of his wife Sarbjit Kaur only.
"He was acquitted of solicitation to murder his first wife Amandeep Kaur and that will therefore not form part of the forthcoming trial.
"The re-trial is currently listed to begin on November 4, 2019."
