An order designed to help police curb crime on a Walsall estate could be extended

Walsall Council has launched a consultation into extending the public spaces protection order (PSPO) that is currently in place covering the Beechdale estate.

The three-year order first came into effect in 2016 but is now due to expire and the authority wants to extend it for a further three years.

It was aimed at tackling a raft of crime and disorder issues that were plaguing the area specified in the PSPO.

These included gangs congregating and shouting, swearing, fighting, being abusive and intimidating people who lived and worked in Beechdale.

Other issues included nuisance vehicles, missiles being thrown at buildings, ball games being played inappropriately, damage to public green spaces and private property, drug use and drunken behaviour and people entering public buildings and refusing to leave.

Anyone who breaches the PSPO will have committed a criminal offence which could result in court summons.
