Pupil unit goes into lockdown over knife threat
A pupil referral unit went into lockdown after a boy was threatened with a knife outside.
Children at The Lawnswood Campus in Wolverhampton were stopped from leaving on Monday afternoon after a boy was seen with a knife and allegedly threatened a 15-year-old pupil.
The 16-year-old was arrested by police after it was claimed he was waving the knife around near the unit on Lawnswood Avenue, Parkfields. He has since been released as the investigation continues.
The incident happened as children were about to leave for the day.
Jo Wood, executive head teacher at The Lawnswood Campus, said: "We can confirm that an incident occurred outside Lawnswood Campus. The safety and wellbeing of the pupils is always our priority so the pupils were kept on site while the police dealt with the matter. No one was harmed during the incident."
A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: "A 16-year-old boy, arrested on suspicion of a public order offence in relation to an incident in Lawnswood Avenue in Wolverhampton just before 2.30pm on Monday, has been released pending further investigation.
"Inquiries continue into the incident where a 15-year-old boy was allegedly threatened with a knife.
