A 90-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run in Staffordshire.

Police are hunting the driver of a dark-coloured car which left the scene after hitting the pensioner in Watling Street, Tamworth, at around 10.45pm last night.

The road was closed last night following the incident as an investigation was launched. Detectives believe the car involved may have been a people carrier.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "We're appealing for witnesses after a 90-year-old man died following a non-stop collision in Tamworth at 10.45pm last night.

"The man was struck by a dark-coloured vehicle, possibly a people carrier, at on Watling Street, near to crossroads of Watling Street, Two Gates and Dosthill Road."
