Two West Midlands Police officers to appear in court

West Midlands Police officers PC Brent Swarbrick and PC Richard Bolton are due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Both have been charged with misconduct in a public offence.

The charges came after a man was arrested for a public order offence during an anti-fascism demonstration near Birmingham International rail station in February 2016.

PC Swarbrick is alleged to have made a false witness statement, while PC Richard Bolton is suspected of making a false pocket book entry.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct ended its independent investigation in February after a referral from the force.

A file was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service which reviewed the evidence and authorised the charges against the officers last month.
