Investigation gathers pace after 'gun shots fired into back of Audi'
An investigation has been launched after gunshots were reportedly fired towards a car in the Black Country.
A police cordon was put around a damaged black Audi involved in the drama on Corporation Street in Caldmore, Walsall.
Shop workers reported hearing three gun shots at around 1pm on Sunday.
CCTV footage seen by the Express & Star showed the Audi being hit from behind and puffs of smoke, believed to be the gun shots.
A group of men are then seen fleeing the scene.
Forensic teams conducted a sweep of the area around the car while officers spoke to neighbours as they tried to uncover what happened. No-one is thought to have been shot.
Jordan Price, 18, who works at the Warszawa Mini Market nearby, said: “Straight away after the crash there were gunshots. It was very loud, everybody could hear it in the area – it was 100 per cent gunshots. Some people saw it happen and said the people had masks on.
“There were three gun shots. I saw everybody running.”
Mother-of-two Aarfah Khan, 26, who lives nearby, said: “One of the coppers told me it was an attempted shooting and that the guys ran off and abandoned the car. I saw forensics doing a sweep.
“It is is a bit scary but it happens. Something happened here before, a guy was stabbed.”
West Midlands Police said they were investigating reports of a shooting following a crash between two cars. The force said no injuries had been reported.
The police cordon remained in place for more than six hours after the dramatic crash on Sunday night. Police officers remained at the scene as locals gathered to try and find out what had happened.
