Crooked carer jailed for stealing £22,000 from pensioners
A crook who stole over £22,000 from pensioners she was meant to be caring for has been jailed for 18 months.
Danielle Broughton, of Audmore Road, Gnosall, was employed at a residential home in Stafford and used her position of trust to take thousands of pounds from vulnerable residents between June 2017 and January 2018.
The 30-year-old used their bank cards and pin numbers, which she had access to in her position as team leader, to withdraw large sums of cash from ATMs, transfer funds to her own bank account and to make payments to a debt collection company which she owed money to.
In total, she took £22,420 from the victims which came to light when the manager noticed the cards were missing from the safe and unauthorised transactions appeared on the residents’ bank statements.
She pleaded guilty to three counts of fraud by false representation at Stafford Crown Court on October 5 and was sentenced at Stafford Crown Court on Wednesday.
Detective Constable Andrew Clarke, of Staffordshire Police’s Adult Safeguarding Enquiry Team, said: “Broughton was in a position of trust and exploited three vulnerable adults to steal from them. What she did was a blatant breach of trust.”
