Vik Gajjar has grown fearful following the attack and, right, his injured arm

Cashier Vik Gajjar, from The Delves, was attacked after confronting a driver who was trying to leave Heath Service Station on Lichfield Road, Walsall, without paying.

He was stabbed with what he believes were keys and treated at Walsall Manor Hospital for the minor injuries to his arm and head.

The 27-year-old has since revealed he feels nervous about going to work each day. He claims he regularly deals with theft as well as attacks and feels the needs to take things into his own hands.

He said: “I noticed this guy filling containers in the back of his vehicle.

"I could not let him get away so I grabbed hold of him and he repeatedly struck something into my arm with force.

“I did not realise he had stabbed me until he had got away and I saw blood spurting from my arm.

“I have been nervous to go into work for the past two years and even depressed, it is unsafe.

The deep scratch on his head

"I have to go into work everyday and prepare for trouble. It is a garage, you would not expect that.

“I feel helpless, it seems these scumbags won’t stop at any cost, like we have to do something ourselves to protect the businesses as there’s no other way in stopping them.

“People do not know how hard it can be. Certain people will come in and cause trouble. It is turning into gang warfare.

“People try and steal from the shop or take off without paying for petrol. I can’t do nothing.

"We have CCTV and have taken all possible measures to stay safe but that means nothing.”

West Midlands Police are investigating the incident which happened last Saturday in broad daylight at around 4.45pm.
