Drunk tried to take nap in McDonald’s
A drunk who tried to sleep at McDonalds in the late afternoon has apologised for his actions.
Ben Owens, 31, told a court that he had a daughter aged three and that he would not like her to see someone behaving in such a way.
He said he was tackling his issues with the help of a support worker.
“I am 30 and I don’t want to be this man anymore,” he said at North East Wales Magistrates’ Court at Mold.
Owens, formerly of Longfield in Chirk but now of Cefn Mawr, Wrexham, admitted being drunk and disorderly in Regent Street, Wrexham, on the afternoon of September 8.
He was fined £80 with £85 costs and a £30 surcharge.
Prosecutor Rhian Jackson said that the McDonalds store was busy with members of the public.
Staff called the police because he had decided to sleep on the floor and refused to leave when asked.
When officers made themselves known to him he struggled and shouted loudly.
He swore and when asked his name he said: “It’s your job to find out, now nick me.”
Owens represented himself and said that he was embarrassed and ashamed.
“I let myself down, my family and the people of Wrexham,” he said.
It was 3pm and he would hate to think that his own daughter would witness such a thing, he said.
He had a key worker with CAIS which he found very helpful and he was “looking to change my ways.”
Magistrates said that he had spoken very well on his own behalf.
But words lasted only as long as they were spoken – it was putting them into practise that mattered.
