Detectives launched a murder probe after Deniss Buzmakovs, aged 42, was found with serious injuries at an address in Beckett Street, opposite Bilston Town Football Club, on Sunday.

Aleksejs Lusnikovs, also 42, of Beckett Street, was last night charged with murder and appeared before Walsall Magistrates this morning.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Monday.

Lusnikovs, dressed in a grey top and trousers, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

Detective Inspector Warren Hines, from the West Midlands Police Homicide Team, said: “This is a murder that has shocked the local community and we have been working flat-out to move the investigation forward.

“This is a significant development and we continue to support the many friends and family of Deniss at this sad time.”

A 34-year-old man who was also arrested has been released with no further action.

In a statement, Mr Buzmakovs' family said: “Deniss was a wonderful son, brother, father and partner. He was known within the family as the talented one as he could turn his hand to anything.

"He was a loving and caring person and had a great sense of humour. He would always make us laugh.

“His life has been taken from us and he will be sorely missed.

“We as a family are grieving and would like to be left in peace to do this.”

A post mortem examination is due to be carried out on Thursday.
