JAILED: Driver hit 155mph before smashing through M6 Toll barrier
A reckless driver has been jailed after hitting speeds of more than 150mph in a stolen vehicle.
Mandeep Barhey smashed through a barrier on the M6 Toll during a dramatic police chase.
The 30 year old was spotted by motorway police officers driving a stolen Audi A5 near Junction 13 of the M6 in October last year.
The dangerous driver was chased by police as he left the motorway and swerved through traffic on the streets of Cannock and reaching speeds of 90mph.
He then went onto the M6 Toll heading south and police dash cams recorded the vehicle reaching speeds of 155mph.
Barhey left the toll road at Lichfield, smashing through the toll barrier at 80mph.
The driver was finally caught after crashing at Wall Island in Lichfield. He was caught on foot by officers and arrested.
Barhey admitted dangerous driving, using a vehicle without insurance criminal damage and aggravated vehicle taking at his first court appearance.
The vehicle had been stolen in a separate incident from the driveway of an address in Leicestershire two months earlier.
Barhey, of Campbell Street, Rugby, was jailed for 10 months and banned from driving for 21 months and ordered to pay £140 in court costs.
Pc Matthew Burns, from the Central Motorway Policing Group, said: "This reckless display of driving could have caused a terrible accident and put many innocent road users in danger.
"I hope this sentence sends a message to anyone else who thinks driving this fast and failing to stop for the police is not a good idea."
