Eddie Stobart lorry driver arrested on suspicion of murder after motorway 'altercation'
A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was killed following an altercation on a motorway.
The victim, a man in his 60s who had previously been driving a VW Caddy panel van, suffered chest, pelvic and head injuries after being hit by the lorry in Wychbold, near Kidderminster, under the bridge for the M5. The injured man was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham but could not be saved.
Police say they believe an altercation may have begun on the southbound M5 carriageway between junction 4a and junction 5 before the man was killed at around 4.30pm on Monday. The driver of an Eddie Stobart lorry, a man in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of murder and remained in custody last night.
Detective Inspector John Cashion, from West Mercia Police, said: "A thorough investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances behind the collision.
"Inquiries are ongoing and we would encourage anyone who saw the vehicles and the manner in which they were being driven on the M5 or the A38 prior to the incident to come forward.
"We are also keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who has dashcam footage of the moments leading up to the collision.
"Our thoughts remain with the man's family at this difficult time."
