Officers were called to Copshill Court, Mount View, Suttond Coldfield at around 8.40pm yesterday, where it is believed acid was poured through the front door of a property before a failed attempt was made to light it.

Police who arrived on the scene complained of feeling unwell and had to be taken to hospital. They have since been released.

A man and a woman in their 20s who were in the property when the substance was poured through were also taken to hospital. West Midlands Police are awaiting an update on their condition.

A spokesman said: "Fire service and local authority colleagues have checked that the property is now safe. There is no threat to the wider community.

"Searches are taking place at the scene today, which may involve officers and other emergency services in protective clothing as a precaution."

Four people have been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent and remain in police custody.
