WATCH: CCTV appeal after pensioner fends off would-be car thieves

An 80-year-old man fought off two would-be thieves who were attempting to steal his car and forced them to flee empty-handed.

The pair knocked the pensioner to the ground and threatened his 79-year-old wife as they arrived at a house in Dudley.

They demanding keys to a black Renault parked outside their home in Derwent Close, Pensnett.

But as the thugs struggled to start the engine, the man reached them, smashing the car windscreen which forced them to flee.

Police today released footage online showing the suspects as part of the investigation.

The men, both wearing baseball caps, are shown in the footage calmly crossing the road and then walking down an alleyway.

Dc Darren Barnes, investigating the crime, said: "My team are following a number of leads, including forensic opportunities, and now we have been able to release CCTV of two suspects we’d like to trace.

"If you recognise the two people in the clip, or have any other information about what happened please contact West Midlands Police on 101."

The attempted theft happened at 8.40pm on April 14.
