Andrew Holdaway, aged 62, remains in a serious condition in hospital following the smash on Norton Road, Stourbridge, on Monday.

He had taken his beloved Dellow MK1 for a drive on the sunny bank holiday afternoon when it was involved in the crash with a Ford Mondeo, which saw the Dellow flipped upside down and left a mangled wreck.

Three men in the Mondeo fled in the direction of the Old White Horse pub, prompting a police appeal.

Mr Holdaway managed to free himself from the wreckage before being taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

His son Ben posted an appeal on Facebook, which has been shared more than 2,000 times. He said: “If you know my dad, which a lot of you do, you know he’s a strong guy full of life and charisma.

“I have no doubt he is going to make it through this, but there was no need for him to ever be put in this position in the first place. If you can, please help. Please help find the guys that did this and hand any relevant information to the police.”

Anyone with information has been asked to call police on 101. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or at crimestoppers-uk.org

Sergeant Alan Hands said police are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash.

He added: “My team are focused on identifying these three men, and I am keen to hear from anyone with information that will help to trace them.

“Specialist officers are supporting Andrew’s family, who are utterly distraught and heartbroken at what has happened."
