Police recorded more than 270 offences during their week-long crackdown

West Midlands Police took part in a week-long blitz on driving offences between April 8 and 15, catching 87 speeders in the process.

One was caught hitting 115mph on the M6 and another 103mph on the same motorway.

A third driver, who had no insurance, was caught by police speeding at 99mph along the M6 Toll on the same day his disqualification had expired.

Traffic officers from Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) recorded more than 270 offences during the week, including not wearing a seatbelt, dangerous driving and jumping a red light.

CMPG, which covers both the West Midlands and Staffordshire, seized 63 vehicles after drivers had no licence or insurance.

A total of 30 drivers were caught using their mobile phone while driving.

Punishments for offences on the roads range from driving bans, fines and prison terms.

Superintendent Dean Hatton, from CMPG, said: "We will not tolerate dangerous and illegal driving on our roads which put not only you as the driver, but other road users at risk.

"This week of action was one of many targeted operations we carry out across Staffordshire and the West Midlands to stop irresponsible driving and those deliberately flouting the law. Those who do commit offences are punished accordingly.

"Speeding and being distracted while driving are two of the biggest killers on our roads, it is simply not worth the risk. I see the consequences and devastation of serious and fatal road traffic collisions too often and I would urge drivers to think carefully about their own actions while behind the wheel."
