The 12-year-old was walking to the RSA Academy alone on Richards Road, in Princes End, at 7.55am on Tuesday when she had to flee.

A small black car pulled up in front of the schoolgirl before its driver got out and started walking towards her and causing her to run in the opposite direction.

The man was then said to have launched into an all-out pursuit past houses before giving up his chase and returning to his car.

No words were spoken or any physical contact made during the incident, say West Midlands Police.

The force have launched an appeal and are now looking for a white man believed to be in his 30s said to have been wearing a cap.

Pc Jason Kitson, of the West Bromwich response team, said: “This is a disturbing incident, and the young girl was understandably distressed by what happened.

"We need to find out who this man is and are appealing for anyone with information to call West Midlands Police on 101 giving log number 429 of 17 April."
