Sarbjit Kaur: Seamstress murdered in Wolverhampton home 'may have been killed by customer'
A seamstress found murdered in her £250,000 home may have been killed by one of her customers, police say.
An inquest on 38-year-old Sarbjit Kaur, who ran a sewing business from the family home in Pennfields, Wolverhampton, was told she died from asphyxiation.
Police are also still pursing the possibility she was the victim of a botched burglary after a quantity of jewellery and thousands of pounds in cash was found to be missing from the four-bedroomed detached property in Rookery Lane.
After the hearing, Detective Inspector James Munro, from force CID, said there had been a spate of burglaries in the area involving Asian gold.
“But none of them resulted in murder, which makes this case out of the ordinary,” he said.
“We are continuing to follow a number of lines of inquiry, including that she may have been murdered by one of her customers.”
Mrs Kaur ran her sari-making business from a converted garage at the family home.
She was found in the doorway of the workroom shortly after 4pm on February 16 when her husband arrived home after picking up his children from school.
She is said to have arrived in Britain from the Punjab in India about three years ago and married Mr Singh in July 2015.
“We are making good progress,” said DI Munro.
“We would appeal to anyone who knew Mrs Kaur, or used her business, to come forward and speak to us.”
The inquest was adjourned for two weeks.
