Christopher Soares, aged 28, from Walsall, was found guilty today for disseminating terrorism material as he sent a link to a 29-minute Daesh instructional video on December 1, 2016.

When he was arrested on June 12 last year in his home in Lysways Street, Walsall, two hunting knives were found along with a number of mobile phones.

He was charged five days later on June 17.

Detective Chief Supt Matt Ward, head of the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit, said: “We cannot underestimate the dangerous nature of the propaganda produced by Daesh and the influence it can have; which is why it is so important to hold to account those who share these videos with others.

“Police and other agencies can offer support to help safeguard those who are vulnerable to radicalisers. The sooner we can intervene, the better chance we have of preventing people from becoming embroiled in the conflict and facing potential prosecution.”

Anyone who sees or hears anything that could be terrorist-related has been advised to call the police in confidence on 0800 789 321 but dial 999 in an emergency.
