Furniture Village, at Gallagher Retail Park, pleaded guilty to failing to provide and maintain a compactor that was safe for employees and without risk to their health.

Several store chiefs were at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court for yesterday's hearing. Six further charges were withdrawn by the prosecution.

The charge against the Slough-based business related to a visit to the firm's Wednesbury branch on June 1, 2013.

District judge Graham Wilkinson said his powers were limited and so he was sending the case to Wolverhampton Crown Court for sentence. The case is scheduled to be heard on March 22.
