David Coughlin, 47, of The Avenue at Lyneal, Ellesmere, appeared in the dock at Mold Crown Court yesterday for a plea hearing.

He is charged that in April 2015 in the area of Ellesmere that he committed fraud by presenting a £200,000 cheque to the TSB Bank intending to have funds credited to his account.

The prosecution say that the lawful owners of the money was in fact an elderly couple for whom he was a carer.

It is also alleged that he used a debit card fraudulently.

The charges were not put to him after his barrister Paul Smith said that he intended to make an application to a judge to dismiss the charges.

Judge Rhys Rowlands fixed a hearing for that application to take place in February.

A trial, if required, will be held in June next year.

He was bailed on condition that he is not to approach any adult with care and support needs in the community, and he is not to provide any such support himself.
