A449 tragedy: Tributes paid to shop worker killed in horror crash
"He was a nice guy who had a private life and few friends but my mother was very happy with him."
The words of a family member of Iana Dumitru, who was killed on Sunday following a horror smash in Penn, Wolverhampton.
Mr Dumitru, 51, who was from Bucharest, in Romania, had been spending the evening out with friends when the tragic accident took place on the A449 Stourbridge Road.
A boy aged 16 was questioned by police on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving on Tuesday.
Other occupants of the vehicle, a five-month-old baby, the mother of the baby, aged 23, and a 49-year-old woman, were all taken to hospital as a precaution.
The family member, who was also based in Bucharest, described Mr Dumitru as someone who came to the UK for 'something better'.
He said: "He was my mother's boyfriend who I wasn't very close too.
"I saw something about an accident on social media and then my mother got in touch to say what had happened.
"She said that they had been on a trip out on the evening to a lake nearby. He had been staying with family friends while working in Wolverhampton in retail.
"He had gone to Wolverhampton for a something better and to be on a one-year work contract.
"He was a nice guy, someone who was ok to speak too. He didn't have any other family than my mother.
"We are in shock from this tragedy and now need space to grieve."
Since the accident, people have taken to social media to express their concern at the notorious stretch of road.
It was also the place of fatality last year, when pensioner Frederick Dudley was killed after stepping off a bus.
Coroner Margaret Jones ordered the speed to be reduced on the 60mph stretch at Mr Dudley’s inquest.
Beckii Jones said on Facebook: "It's such a horrible bend. The road needs looking at tarmac is all brought up so even if you are in the speed limit your car still gets pushed towards the side because your car wheels have nothing to grip onto.
"It's a pity someone had to lose a life before people start looking at the bigger picture on some of these roads."
