Giles Webber has been appointed the new boss of Birmingham Dogs Home. He had been operations director at Dogs Trust charity for the previous six years.

He replaces Simon Price, who was arrested and bailed by police in November over alleged missing cash from the organisation.

Last night, West Midlands Police said it was still investigating Mr Price, who has not been charged with any offence.

Speaking no his appointment, Mr Webber said: “Animal welfare is hugely important to me and I am committed to working for the benefit of stray and abandoned dogs.

"Our work in Birmingham is also to support dog owners and future dog owners who are considering giving a second chance in life to a rescue animal.”

John Wheatley, chairman at Birmingham Dogs Home, added: “We warmly welcome Giles as our new chief executive and I am confident we will greatly benefit from his considerable experience, leadership and integrity.

"The last twelve months have been challenging for Birmingham Dogs Home but we are very much looking forward to a period of stability and successful growth under Giles’ strategic direction and leadership.”

Birmingham Dogs Home rescues, cares for and rehomes dogs across the region. It has a centre in Wolverhampton.
