"I've got acid!" Attacker squirts cleaning fluid in face of drinker outside West Midlands pub

He leapt from a car before firing the liquid from a bottle at a group of people, hitting one man in the face.

The victim, who was wearing glasses, threw a dog bowl of water over his face and was not hurt.

The attacker was driven away by an accomplice. It came less than a week after six people in London were targeted in acid attacks in the space of less than 90 minutes.

Police believe the attack was prompted when the victim's group told the occupants of the car to slow down because they were driving anti-socially.

Pc Dave Spencer said: "Given the recent spate of acid attacks in London this was a hugely irresponsible act and very scary for the victim.

"The attacker shouted ‘I’ve got acid’ but we believe it was actually an ammonia-based cleaning fluid.

"The victim didn’t report feeling any burning sensation and was thankfully unhurt.

"We need to know who this man is and I’d urge anyone with information to contact me on the 101 number or call Crimestoppers anonymously."

The attack happened at around 8pm on Tuesday outside The Chalice pub in Dickens Heath, Solihull.

The attacker was said to be in a blue T-shirt, beige shorts, shoes and with a ‘man bag’ across his shoulder.

He has dark hair, a closely cropped beard and is believed to be in his 20s.

The alleged driver, 21, has been charged with a public order offence.

A vehicle has also been seized, and police have recovered a bottle containing a clear liquid.
