Dealer who ran from police officer is jailed
Police had to smash the windscreen of a drug dealer’s Mercedes to stop him escaping in the car, a judge heard.
Ismail Khan then tried to run away and struggled with the officer who caught him after a short chase, during which he threw a white parcel into a garden, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.
Almost £1,500 worth of heroin and cocaine was found in the discarded package, revealed Mr Henry Skudra, prosecuting.
Two mobile phones displaying text messages linked to drug dealing and £1,240 cash were found in the Mercedes, which was stopped by police at the junction of Green Street and Stone Street, in Oldbury, after its driver was seen conducting a deal with a known drug user on May 12.
The prosecutor continued: “The driver tried to make off after police approached and was trying to move the vehicle until a police officer smashed its windscreen with his baton.
“The driver exited through the passenger side and was seen to throw a while package into a back garden before being detained. He resisted arrested and the officer was forced to use his baton again.”
Mr Mohammed Hafeez, defending, said: “He is ashamed. He is a registered carer for his aunt but fell in with the wrong crowd who introduced him to drugs.”
Khan, aged 23, from Vicarage Street, Oldbury pleaded guilty to possession of heroin and cocaine with intent to supply and obstructing a police constable and was jailed for two and a half years.
