The Wolverhampton Wolves hero and his pregnant wife Faye are counting the cost of the burglary in which raiders emptied the safe and fled with anything of value.

The recently married couple, who are expecting a daughter, moved into the property near East Midlands Airport where 26-year-old Woffinden was carrying out many of the renovations himself.

The popular rider, who started his Elite League career with Wolves where he spent five years, returned to the club last year to help them lift the Elite League Championship for the first time in seven years.

Posting on Facebook, he wrote: 'So tonight some grubs smashed a window and broke into our new house, emptied the safe and took all our ****. Gutted is an understatement. Faye and the cats are ok! Will keep you posted when I know what they stole.'

Woffinden later Tweeted: 'New house got broken into tonight they took every thing worth any money.'
