The force has issued a statement to alert members of the public to the National Crime Agency car with blue lights which has been travelling across the region.

The woman driver was asked to get into the 1 Series silver BMW however she refused and immediately reported the matter to police.

Officers said last night that the vehicle was stolen in Solihull on Saturday between 5pm and 11pm. It has already been spotted with two separate cloned number plates, according to police.

Detective Chief Inspector Craig Underwood from Solihull Police said: “We are asking anyone who sees this vehicle to call us straight away.

“A police officer will always show their warrant card as proof of their identity, if this is not shown or you have any concerns then call us on 101.”

The force’s official Twitter account said: “We will always show our warrant card as proof of identity, if this is not shown or you have any concerns call us immediately.”

A comment on Facebook said: “Two sets of different cloned plates have already been used on the car which is why we haven’t released the number plate details.”

Dudley Council’s UKIP leader Paul Brothwood urged members of the public to pass on any details about the car.

He said: “The police have got enough on their plates as it is with their current budget cuts without having to chase idiots trying to act like they are police.

“Anyone who spots them needs to report it as soon as possible so they can be caught.”

Social media users have shared the force’s statement online more than 2,000 times in a bid to track down the culprits.

Dave Baynham wrote: “This really makes me angry, the police find it hard enough to the trust of the general public without these dangerous wasters.”
