Gunman in raid on Smethwick bookmakers
A raider armed with a gun and knife threatened staff and demanded cash in a raid on a bookmakers in the Black Country.
The raid took place at William Hill in Queen's Road, Smethwick on Saturday night at 8.20pm.
When police they arrived they were told a man had entered the shop and produced a knife and gun and asked staff to hand over money, but staff refused. No shots were fired and by the time police arrived the armed man had fled empty handed.
Police are now investigating the attempted robbery and are appealing for any witnesses to call101.
West Midlands Police spokesman Brigg Ford said: "There was one male offender and he had a scarf round his face. There is no mention of anything being stolen and it is being treated as an attempted robbery."
It is the latest raid to take place in Sandwell. Last Thursday a gang of robbers struck at the Co-op store in Regent Road, in Tividale.
