The company, which has been trading in Kidderminster since 1926, said tough economic conditions meant customers were not buying enough flooring to make the business viable.

Administrators had been called in earlier this week at the troubled company, which is based on Greenhill Works Industrial Estate on Birmingham Road.

In a statement, managing director Chris Adam said: "It's with huge sadness for all the people involved that we are announcing Adam Carpets Limited ceased trading on Thursday 20 March 2025.

"Despite the best efforts of all our colleagues, the current economic environment means that UK consumers simply do not have the confidence in their finances to buy enough of our high-quality wool-rich carpet to make our business viable right now.

"The significant increase in taxes in the government Budget last October, as well as the April tax increases to come, both mean that this situation is getting worse.

"We therefore wish to thank suppliers, colleagues and customers for their support and enthusiasm for what we have made, sold and installed together across the generations and wish them well for the future."

Earlier this month, the company’s Managing Director Chris Adam stated that the firm had seen a “significant drop off in sales since the autumn of 2024”, driven by factors including adverse trading conditions across the retail sector, rising gas and electricity prices and the increase in employer National Insurance contributions.

The company said it was assisting employees who had been made redundant.

Adam added: “We are already assisting them to move forward with their plans for the future.”

Young said: “We will also be engaging an employee rights agent to support employees with their claims.”
